Es Vedra Legends and Curiosities
Many customers have asked me about the energy, magnetism and legends of Es Vedra. That’s why I’ve decided to write a post about why this place is so special.
When approaching Es Vedra, you feel that it is a unique place. We want to tell you why this inmense rock is the origin of so many legends and why it makes you feel that you are in a special place.
Es Vedra is one of those corners of Ibiza that captures your soul, a natural jewel full of mystery, legends and an energy that envelops you from the very first moment.
Are you ready to be captivated by its magnetism?
The mistery of the magnetic Es Vedra: Legends
Perhaps it is its triangular shape, 384 metres high, like a natural lighthouse that guides the traveller, or the way it seems to float above the horizon that makes Es Vedra the source of many legends.
Legends of Es Vedra
Many are the legends that speak of the power of Es Vedra. Because this rock, that emerges from the sea, suggests credible and unbelievable stories.
The Legend of Es Vedrá – The ogre
There is on legend about Es Vedra that tells of a huge ogre who lived on Es Vedra. He ventured to the island of Ibiza to kidnap young maidens. It reminds you of another similar story, like King Kong perhaps? It is true that many times a cloud is trapped on the top of the island while the rest of the sky is blue. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll remember that King Kong’s island always had a cloud attributed to the deep breath of the huge orangutan. Coincidence? 🙂

Here Es Vedra shines brightly through the clouds….It is like in a movie, isn’t it
Legend of Es Vedra – the sex
There are even better legends about Es Vedra. It is said that if you touch the rock your sex life will improve to supernatural levels. That might encourage you to come 🙂
We assure you that when the clients are lazy and don’t feel like diving we tell them this legend and they right away for a swimming and touch the magnetic Es Vedra.
Legend of Es Vedra – Atlantis, the lost city
It is also said that Es Vedra is the tip of the lost city of Atlantis. The cove of Sa Pedrera as Atlantis itself. In fact this cove is known as Atlantis all over the world. If you like walking we recommend you to enjoy the trekking to this beautiful cove. It is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Ibiza.

The amazing cove of Atlantis
Legend of Es Vedra – he goddess Tanit
Tanit , in Carthaginian mythology Tanit is nothing more and nothing less than the goddess of the moon, fertility and dance.
Es Vedra was said to be the birthplace of this Goddess.
The energy of Es Vedra
It is not easy to explain what it feels like to be near Es Vedra. In many parts of the world people talk about certain spots having a unique energy.
Here, that feeling is palpable. The island is said to be a centre of spiritual power, a place where legends come to life.
The truth is that people who believe in energy as a religion preach that the earth has an energetic network of interconnected points and Es Vedra is one of the most energetic ones.
There is also talk that due to its great energetic power, Es Vedra attracts life from other planets. There is talk of numerous sightings of UFOs (of which there is no credible graphic evidence) and lights that seem to come out from under the island itself. Could Es Vedra be a meeting place for extraterrestrials? I don’t know, and in the many years that I have been contemplating the island I have not seen any light other than the Es Vedra lighthouse.
It is true that at the beginning of the 19th century there was already talk of strange phenomena coming from the island.
Francisco Palau
There was a time, in 1854, when the religious Francisco Palau y Quer, after being banished to Ibiza, decided to retire to Es Vedra for six years in order to pray. He was eventually made a saint. In fact, the capital of the island of Formentera now bears his name. A small metal plaque nailed to the slopes of Es Vedrá bears his name to commemorate this man and his time on the island. In Es Vedra there is a small lighthouse with a dock that was used to bring food to this saint from the island of Ibiza.
Francisco Palau himself spoke of strange phenomena in Es Vedra. It’s someone who inhabited the island and was named a Saint. I would like to have a long conversation with Francisco to find out exactly what he meant by strange phenomena.
Whether for its energy or its wild beauty, Es Vedra leaves no one indifferent

What a view!
The magnetism of Es Vedrá
Due to its geographical location, this island has a great magnetism. In fact, the triangle of silence with Es Vedrá, the rock of Ifach in Calpe and the westernmost point of Mallorca is known as the second most magnetic point on earth after the Bermuda triangle, which is known for the fact that many ships were lost and never came back to land. The magnetism of the geographical area caused the compass of the ships to lose the North.
The compass we have on board, large and powerful, is not altered as we sail to Es Vedra. But it is also true that once, with a client who wanted to test the magnetism of Es Vedrá, we had a mini compass, almost like a toy, smaller than a bottle cap, and we noticed a certain change in the needle. Coincidence? maybe. I don’t dare to say anything in case the nymphs of Es Vedra get angry.
We have a friend at Charters Eleven Catamaran Hire in Ibiza, who has come several times to fly his drone. He doesn’t want to fly it too close to Es Vedra. Apparently last time he flew it he had issues getting it back…as if it lost its way. That is not a legend, it is just what happened.
The goats of Es Vedra
When I first arrived in Ibiza and sailed along the coast I was very surprised to see goats wandering around Es Vedra. They were big and there were many of them…although it was difficult to spot them if they were not moving.
It is said that they arrived on the island last century, transported by the locals to make their own hunting grounds. It is also said that there are records of goats in Es Vedra since the 16th century.
In 2019 it was decided, after much local and even national debate, to cull these goats for health reasons. The goats had reproduced in large numbers and did not have enough water and food. It seems that they were in a very bad state and had destroyed the island’s flora and endangered the rest of the fauna.

The magnetic Es Vedra. You can appreciate the greenery on its slopes.
The best way to experience the mythical Es Vedra island.

A unique experience
Although you cannot step on the island, the waters surrounding it are deep and deep blue. Two metres from touching the rock with your hand you can reach a depth of more than 30 metres. From the depths of the Mediterranean Sea, Es Vedra rises to a height of almost four hundred metres.
We assure you that a swim at the foot of Es Vedrá is something to remember.
We stand back and let our guests take a dip and enjoy this unique experience. Many just want to touch the island to see if the sex-enhancing experience becomes a reality. I’ve embraced the island and the truth is that I’m still the same 😛
If you are a photography lover, you can’t miss the sunset in this place. The golden light of the sun tinging the waters and the rocks with warm tones will give you a view you won’t forget. It is a place that invites you to disconnect, to breathe deeply and enjoy the present moment. In the silence that surrounds the island, only the sound of the breeze accompanies you. creating an ideal environment for introspection, relaxation and connection with nature.
The Magic of Es Vedra at Sunset
There is certainly one thing you can’t miss; the sunset in Es Vedra.
As the sun sets behind the island, the sky fills with warm colours, creating an atmosphere so special that it makes you feel part of something bigger. This is the kind of experience that sticks in your memory and in dozens of photos on your mobile phone.
The golden reflection on the water, the tranquillity of the sea and the silhouette of Es Vedra silhouetted against the sky. No matter how many times you experience it, it will always be just as impressive.
We never tire of enjoying it
There is a cliff in Ibiza where many people gather every day to enjpy the sun go down behind Es Vedra.
We are lucky enough to be able to enjoy it more closely from the catamaran we offer for private excursions in Ibiza.
